Double Standard or Much Needed Regulation? April 12, 2007

imus.jpgI would like to throw out there that this Imus thing has me in a tizzy.  I would never listen regularly to a talk radio host that makes comments such as the one Imus made.  I take offense to it.  Really, I do.  But I am so flabergasted at how blown out of proportion this whole thing has come to!  Can you people slowly mouth the following words along with me??:  “SLIPPERY SLOPE”

What’s next?  The mighty advertiser dollar dictates what James Dobson can and can’t say on his Focus on the Family radio program?

The paragraph above spells out my emotions throughout today as I followed the debaucle that is Don Imus.  However, a very intelligent person that I know just made the most startlingly obvious and yet over-looked by me comment that defines this incident.  The government did not step in and cancel Imus’ show!  This wasn’t Big Government defining Free Speech for us!  This was the private sector.  The people who own the company that broadcasted Imus’ show.  The advertisers that paid for that time.  These were the ones dictating this action.  Do I still think it’s crazy?  Absolutely.  But I do have to admit that I much prefer the private sector “regulating” some of these half-crazed TV and Radio personalities as opposed to the government!  Now THAT would be a SLIPPERY SLOPE!

We need the immigrants. April 6, 2007

3851785182.jpgDid everyone see the video clip of O’Reilly screaming uncontrollably at Geraldo Rivera on his show last night about illegal immigration?  http://youtube.com/watch?v=tLPuGuaZTx8 Geraldo had a good point ladies and gentlemen.  The inscription on our Statue of Liberty reads “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses…”   Construction company owners legitimately have a very hard time hiring lazy Americans to work for them for decent wages.  Thoughts??  Doesn’t our country welcome imigrants with open arms?  Don’t we all benefit from their hard work?

Why Should We Share Your Hell? April 5, 2007

blowing-nose-ii.jpgLet’s talk about people who have allergies shall we?  Now at this time of year, it would be expected that one would blog about pollen allergies.  Ah the utter hell of it all!  Alas, I am not.  I am referring to people who are highly allergic to household pets and STILL OWN THEM.  My dear friend works with a gal who owns a couple of dogs and cats and sleeps with them every night.  She is crazy allergic to these animals but yet does not feel that it is necessary to take any allergy medicine!  So she comes to work every day hacking and sneezing.  She blows her nose like a train whistle 572 times PER DAY.  Because of this, and I kid you not, my dear friend has resorted to working from home 95% of the time, and literally goes into the office only when absolutely necessary.  No way to concentrate!

I understand people have allergies.  I have allergies.  When I’m sneezing, coughing, etc. I take medicine!  Perhaps at this point her allergies are just one of her “pets” that she can blame for poor productivity, and a bad attitude when she wants to, or a way to get attention?  So does everyone agree that a person could be considered completely out of touch with their surroundings if they insist on sharing their allergy hell with all of us?
